At the New Zealand Maritime School, our lecturers and staff are committed to ensuring that our students and industry clients are equipped to serve at the forefront of these dynamic and growing sectors of the global economy.
We are New Zealand’s premier provider of maritime and logistics training and offer a range of short courses, diploma programmes, and in-house training services. We offer programmes that meet licencing requirements for all levels of certification in both the Nautical or Deck, Engineering, ETO, and Yacht sectors. We also act as consultants at Government and industry levels, and are affiliated with the Nautical Institute, an international representative body for maritime professionals involved in the control of sea-going ships.
Our main facility is located in downtown Auckland and our classrooms overlook the city’s waterfront and New Zealand’s biggest and busiest commercial port. We also provide our courses, training and consultancy services throughout New Zealand and the Asia Pacific region. We are more than a traditional maritime school, as our courses extend to areas of air freight, customs practice, importing, exporting, and freight forwarding.
We work closely with the ports, shipping, airline, importing, exporting and freight logistics industries, both directly and through advisory committees to ensure that our courses are aligned with industry requirements.
The qualifications and training we provide is relevant, well-structured and widely recognised both in New Zealand and overseas. Our graduates face the choice of a diverse range of job and career opportunities. Bodies that accredit our training include Maritime New Zealand, the New Zealand Qualifications Authority, the Nautical Institute, IATA and FIATA. The School is member of the International Maritime Simulator Forum and is affiliated with the Nautical Institute, the world’s largest international body representing maritime professionals, and works in a joint venture with Seaways Ltd.
We maintain close links with other similar institutes throughout the Pacific, Asia and Europe and are member of GlobalMET, the largest international single grouping of maritime training and research expertise with NGO status at IMO. We are also proud of the highest number of students from throughout the Pacific, Asia and Europe who choose to study with us.
Our history dates back to the 1920’s and we now operate under the umbrella of the Manukau institute of technology, which gives us access to the support, resources and facilities of a large tertiary institution, but still allows us to maintain our unique culture and identity.
