Hi everyone,
I'm due to join a yacht not yet registered and being built in a UK shipyard. I hold an Australian passport and automatically get a visitors visa when entering the UK.
Does anyone know if I am able to work on the yacht prior to it being registered in the IOM on a visitors visa, or do I need to apply for a work visa? I have read countless guidance notices for immigration for seafarers, but working in a shipyard is still a grey area. If anyone has any advice, or can point me in the direction of an appropriate immigration lawyer I would be greatly appreciative!
Cheers!

Mate, why isn’t your boat handling this for you?
Clearly you can’t legally work in the UK, and that is why the boat your joing needs to figure out what to do.
Any boat that can’t be bothered helping the crew ain’t worth working on.
