Apr 10th 17

A yacht fire reportedly broke out around 4:30 a.m. on April 10 at Marmaris Yacht Marina in the Mugla province of Turkey, killing one person and destroying three yachts. According to reports, motor yachts White Lady, Cartano, and Passion were completely burned, while another yacht suffered severe damages.

Local news source Hurriyet Daily News states that the fire spread to another motor yacht and sailing boat within a short period of time. A 63-year-old Turkish man, Ekrem Gokce, died on M/Y Cartano. Turker Demir, who was also on the yacht, was wounded and taken to the hospital.

Witnesses informed the police immediately. It reportedly took three hours to tamp down the fire, with firefighters taking precautionary measures to prevent the flames from spreading to other yachts and the coast guard extinguishing the fire from the sea.

The cause of the fire is still being investigated, but reports claim that police suspect arson. According to news agency Andolu Agency, Billy Clark, 34, and Rosie Patricia Glover, 24, were arrested in connection with the fire.
