M/Y Sunrise Runs Aground in Fort Lauderdale

Feb 14th 18

Yesterday, February 13, published footage on its Facebook page of the 171-foot M/Y Sunrise grounded in Fort Lauderdale in front of Pier 66 Marina — a status reportedly confirmed by Marine Traffic AIS, which labeled the yacht as “aground” at the time.

According to Local10, eyewitnesses say the boat was being towed out of the docks when it hit a sandbar, tilting to such an extent that one of its propellers jutted out of the water. However, there is no official report on what caused the yacht to run aground.

A tow boat and the United States Coast Guard (USCG) worked to free the boat, waiting until the tide rose to make their moves. Later that evening, she was reported as floating free, but there’s no word yet on her current status. There are no reported injuries.

Dockwalk reached out to the USCG and marina director, but has yet to receive a response. Stay tuned for more information.
