Lefkas is separated from the Greek mainland by a short canal. The harbour is accessed through this canal and past a floating bridge, avoiding the shallow mud flats nearby. The impressive coastline around Lefkas features mountains and many private bays. Inland are large flat vineyards and quaint villages that are well worth a visit. International flights operate throughout the summer, and in winter there are five weekly internal flights from Athens. In August there is an annual international folk dance festival, in which 30 countries take part. The harbour gets extremely busy during these two months.
