On August 12 at about 6 p.m., 27.3-meter M/Y Irmao caught fire while anchored off the coast of Formentera,Maritime Executive reports. The vessel burned for several hours before firefighters got the blaze under control.

According to Salvamento Maritimo, private vessels rescued the 17 people — 12 guests and five crewmembers — on board at the time of the incident, and the yacht was towed while still ablaze by a rescue vessel. However, the vessel sank the following morning. No oil pollution is expected.

The cause of the fire remains unknown, and one crewmember sustained minor burn injuries, Majorca Daily Bulletin reports.
