Offering 12 dedicated berths for superyachts up to 140 metres LOA, Cairns Marlin Marina has hosted the likes of Octopus, Vava II, Amastasia and Equanimity in the gateway to the Great Barrier Reef. Situated just 10 minutes from Cairns International Airport and close to world-class refit services, owners and captains of superyachts are also attracted by the highly-experienced and friendly marina staff who have worked at the marina for years and can provide unique local insight into Australia’s far north.
Cairns Marlin Marina grew organically, from a single wharf dating pre-1980s to its current configuration of 262 berths. It benefited from major reconstruction following damage caused by cyclone Joy in 1997. Early versions of portmaster planning identified key tourism opportunities and the visionary Cityport Development developed these in the 1990s and 2000s, tying in the existing marina facilities with significant new infrastructure for future growth. Wave protection structures were constructed with several new pontoons installed within this protected and safe zone. The Sail Fish Quay was specifically built to cater for the needs of the superyacht market.
Superyacht guests can enjoy top restaurants a short walk away along the elegant, relaxing esplanade or adventure just two hours north to the Daintree Rainforest, a UNESCO World Heritage site recently returned to its Aboriginal custodians. The region is famed for its ancient and rugged, natural beauty, and superyachters will doubtless wish to extend their stay at Cairns Marlin Marina to enjoy exploring the white-sand beaches, waterfalls and canopies in the forests of this 180-million-year-old site, before heading to the Great Barrier Reef. Six- and 12-month berth leases are offered for those who decide to stay.
