The 82-foot Sunseeker Predator M/Y Anditi caught fire in Coconut Grove, Miami, at 1600 South BayshoreDrive and 16th Avenue on Monday evening, June 22.
Miami Fire Rescue and Miami Fireboat Central arrived at thescene shortly after 8 p.m. to find flames and heavy smoke billowing from theyacht, which was docked behind nearby residences. They extinguished the flamesand successfully prevented the fire from spreading to nearby boats, reportingthat no one was on board during the fire.
M/Y Anditisuffered damages at the vessel’s aft end, but thick smoke also filled thecabin.
A witness told Local 10 News he heard a crash and looked outhis balcony to see flames shooting from the back of the boat. According to BoatInternational Media, bystanders used a hose to dowse the flames before the firerescue team appeared, keeping it nearly under control until it sparked again.
The cause of the fire is unknown and currently beinginvestigated. The owner told investigators the yacht appeared to be workingfine when it was used the day previously.
This isn’t the first time Coconut Grove has witnessed ayacht fire; in December 2011, three yachts were completely destroyed by a fireand another nearby yacht was seriously damaged, including the 85-foot M/Y Paranda.
