M/Y Arctic P Issued Warning in New Zealand

The owner of 87-meter M/Y Arctic P, Australian billionaire James Packer, was issued a warning by the Auckland Council after a red substance was reportedly witnessed in the water near the vessel in Auckland’s Wynyard Quarter.

According to Stuff.co.nz, Auckland Council’s leader of compliance investigations, Kerri Fergusson, said it was alerted to a “red discharge” in the water around the yacht on Wednesday afternoon. While Fergusson told Stuff.co.nz that there was nothing in the water when the council arrived, it was later determined that the substance resulted from scrubbing work performed on the hull.

The New Zealand Herald reports that after investigating, the council determined that the vessel had breached the Resource Management Act. The council issued an abatement notice “to cease all work being done on the vessel and apply for a resource consent for any further scrubbing.” The captain and the company’s supervisor was reportedly advised on the requirements and standards they needed to maintain.

The incident came just a day after Packer reportedly resigned from his company, Crown Resorts, for personal reasons.
