Overnight between Thursday, September 1, and Friday, September 2, a fire broke out on board a 28-meter motor yacht in the IMS Shipyard in Saint-Mandrier, France. The yacht is reportedly Sunseeker’s M/Y Black Diamond, and no one was on board the vessel at the time of the incident.
About 40 firefighters quickly arrived at the scene to extinguish the fire and prevent its spread to nearby vessels. Local media Var-Martin reports that around 1 a.m. an explosion occurred.
The flames were under control by the morning, but the vessel became partially submerged. Anti-pollution barriers were placed on September 2, and the authorities’ focus was to contain the pollution from what remained of the yacht and then remove the vessel from the water.
The cause of the fire is yet to be determined.
